Toddlers
Program Overview
At this age children begin to gain more independence, but still have a strong need for one-on-one affection and attention. A more structured schedule is introduced in the toddler room. This helps children feel more secure by providing them with a sense of time and expectation of things to come. Our toddler room is equipped with age-appropriate toys so each child is fully engaged, safe and enjoying each day.

Introducing Routine
Our toddler teachers prepare a weekly Lesson Plan that encourages the children to explore their environment and have experiences that will build upon each other and prepare your child for the next stages of development. Toddlers thrive on routine, and our daily schedule is planned with that in mind. Our daily schedule provides times for outdoor exploration, music and movement, creative experiences, and sensory activities, in addition to diapering, mealtimes and a nap.
Fostering Independence
During toddlerhood, children learn through repetition, in which the toddler will repeat tasks over and over to develop an understanding of cause and effect relationships. This also leads to the discovery of new relationships through exploration and experimentation, the beginning stages of learning to communicate through words and physical mobility. Our caregivers encourage a sense of independence so that toddlers feel secure in exploring these new stages.
Parent Communication
Our “Open-Door Policy” encourages parents to visit their child throughout the day and allow for ongoing communication through our Brightwheel app. Daily, real-time updates keep you informed about your child’s day and their achievement of developmental milestones while here at Chesterfield Academy.
Pictures and videos are taken by our caregivers are sent via Brightwheel app for you to enjoy while at work. These photos are also used for portfolios and in the classroom to create an environment that is familiar to the children. Twice a year Parent Teacher Conferences are held to discuss the developmental checklist, go through your child’s developmental portfolio, and be available to address any questions or concerns you may have.
